Shariah Committee

The process of product development, compliance and delivery is strictly overseen by the Shariah Committee, which is made up of three (3) Muslim scholars registered with the SC. The Shariah Committee has been established to provide advice and guidance to ensure that the Fund‘s activities comply with rules and principles of Shariah.

The Shariah Committee operates independently from the Investment Committee and meets once every quarter with the fund manager to address advisory matters pertaining to the Funds. The Shariah Committee also reviews the assets of the Funds on a monthly basis to ensure compliance with Shariah principles or any other relevant principle at all times. Its role is to provide its expertise and guidance as well as:

  To advise on all aspects of Islamic fund management business in accordance with Shariah principles;
 
  To provide Shariah expertise and guidance on all matters, particularly on documentation, fund structure and investment instruments, and ensure compliance with relevant SC regulations and/or standards, including resolutions issued by the SAC, Shariah principles or any other relevant principle at all times;
 
  To review compliance report of the Manager or an investment transaction report to ensure that investment activities are Shariah compliant; and
 
  To provide a written opinion and/or periodic report to confirm and certify whether the Islamic fund management business has been managed and/or administered in accordance with Shariah principles.

He is the Executive Director of Pusrawi Corporation Sdn Bhd. He has served as a lecturer in the Shariah Department, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and the Department of Law, International Islamic University. He has been in the BIMB Invest’s Shariah Committee since 20 June 1994.  
 
Qualifications
 
BA Shariah, Al-Azhar University and PhD. Modern Middle Eastern History, New York University.
 

 

Name USTAZ DR. YUSOF BIN RAMLI

He was a religious teacher and later a Religious Administration Officer with Jabatan Agama Islam Selangor (JAIS) prior to joining Universiti Teknologi Mara, as a lecturer, a post which he has held since July 1982. He has written numerous papers in the areas of Faraidh and Mudharabah and registered as a Shariah qualified individual with the SC.
 
Qualifications
 
 
PhD. Muamalah Islam from University of Malaya, M.A. Faraidh & Pentadbiran Harta Pusaka Umat Islam di Malaysia (UKM) and B.A (Hons) Syariah (UKM).
 

  

Name USTAZAH DR. ASMAK BINTI AB. RAHMAN

Presently a lecturer in the Department of Shariah and Economics, Academy of Islamic Studies, University of Malaya. She has written and presented numerous papers in the area of Islamic Studies, specifically Takaful. She is registered as a Shariah qualified individual with the SC.

PhD, Master in Shariah and Bachelor in Shariah (Hons.) from University of Malaya.
